The US Trade Office announced new tariffs for Chinese-made ships docking in US ports. This includes fees per visit, affecting both Chinese and foreign-built vessels carrying certain cargoes.

Foreign owners and operators of Chinese vessels, which were not made in China, also feel the consequences of this step, stated the U.S. trade representative's office. Fees will be charged for each U.S. port call instead of for each individual U.S. port, with a maximum of five calls per year. The U.S. trade representative also plans to introduce established fees for foreign vessels transporting automobiles, as well as mandatory fees on vessels transporting liquefied natural gas. "Owners and operators of vessels made in China will have to pay new fees when calling at U.S. ports," reported the trade representative's office. This step is expected to come into effect within 180 days, and these fees will subsequently increase.
