Trump Threatens 200% Tariff on European Wines

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, threatened on Thursday to impose a 200% tariff on wines, champagnes, and other alcoholic products coming from France and other countries in the European Union (EU). The threat comes in response to the EU's proposal to establish a 50% tariff on American whiskey, according to the Xinhua news agency.

The European measure was designed as a response to the tariffs imposed by the U.S. administration on steel and aluminum. This European tariff was scheduled to come into effect on April 1, according to the Associated Press news agency. However, Trump, through a social media post, promised to escalate the trade war.

In his morning message, the U.S. president stated: "If this tariff is not removed immediately, the United States will shortly impose a 200% tariff on all wines, champagnes, and alcoholic products coming from France and other countries represented in the EU." He also added that this measure "will greatly benefit wine and champagne businesses in the United States."
