U.S. President Donald Trump has announced a five-day suspension of military strikes against Iranian energy infrastructure following productive talks. This decision has caused oil prices to fall and could impact the situation in the Middle East.

Trump Postpones Iran Attacks for Five Days

U.S. President Donald Trump announced this Monday that he has ordered his Department of War to postpone for five days military attacks against Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure following “productive” conversations between the United States and Iran to resolve hostilities. The Republican leader stated on his network, Truth Social, that the two countries have held over the past two days “very good and productive conversations regarding a complete and total resolution” of their hostilities in the Middle East. Based on the character and tone of that “deep, detailed, and constructive” dialogue, which he said will continue throughout the week, he noted that he has ordered the Department of War to suspend attacks on Iranian energy infrastructure. His order will remain “depending on the success of the ongoing meetings and discussions,” the president emphasized. Trump's message comes after he threatened Iran with new attacks if it did not “fully” open the Strait of Hormuz, and after Iranian media reported on Sunday that Tehran had warned it would attack U.S. energy infrastructure if its power plants are bombed. The United States and Israel launched their offensive against Iran on February 28, and Iran's retaliation has extended to allies of both in the region. Last week, Tehran had warned that if it suffered new attacks on its energy infrastructure, its response would not be “restrained” and made it clear that the retaliation carried out so far had used only “a fraction” of its capacity. The price of Brent crude, the benchmark in Europe, plunges 13% and trades below a hundred dollars a barrel, after U.S. President Donald Trump announced to postpone for five days military attacks against Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure. The Republican leader stated on his network, Truth Social, that the two countries have held over the past two days “very good and productive conversations regarding a complete and total resolution” of their hostilities in the Middle East. A few minutes after 12:00, Brent had fallen to as low as 96 dollars per barrel following Trump's message. “In view of the tone of these deep, detailed, and constructive conversations, which will continue throughout the week, I have instructed the Department of War to postpone all military attacks against Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure for a period of five days, subject to the success of the ongoing meetings and discussions,” Trump detailed. The announcement made by Trump has caused a turnaround in the oil quotation, which in the case of Brent had risen during the morning of this Monday to reach a peak at 114.43 dollars.
