Mass Migration Toward the U.S. Before Trump's Inauguration

As President-elect Trump prepares to take office, numerous caravans of migrants traverse Latin America and Mexico, heading toward the U.S. border. Authorities in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, are preparing for potentially large arrivals, while Texas officials intervene against illegal crossings in Eagle Pass.

Mass Migration Toward the U.S. Before Trump's Inauguration

Due to the approaching inauguration of the elected president of the United States, Donald Trump, the movement of numerous migrant caravans throughout Latin America and Mexico has been observed, with the intention of reaching U.S. territory before January 20. In border cities between Mexico and the U.S., such as Ciudad Juárez in Chihuahua, they are preparing for the arrival of thousands of migrants who have been advancing in caravans for several weeks.

The mayor of Ciudad Juárez, Cruz Pérez Cuellar, mentioned this week that the shelters in the region are ready to receive a group of migrants heading from Chiapas in southern Mexico to the north, possibly towards that area. On the U.S. side, the Department of Public Safety of Eagle Pass, Texas, has taken measures to deter illegal border crossings and proactively respond to the mass migration seeking to enter the United States.

A caravan of approximately 2,500 migrants, including complete families, departed last week from the southern border of Mexico with the hope of crossing the border into the U.S. and seeking asylum before Trump takes office and makes changes to immigration processes, as he has promised during his campaign. According to experts, the flow of migrants is expected to continue increasing in the coming weeks leading up to the arrival of the new U.S. administration.

Upon reaching central Mexico, the caravan will split and its components will head to various cities to cross the border, resulting in movement at several border points without overcrowding any particular one. Local and state authorities on both sides of the border are taking measures to address this situation and protect the communities in the region.
