FBI Director's Email Hacked, Blamed on Iranian Group

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has confirmed that its account was hacked. According to a CBS News source, hackers gained access to the personal email of the bureau's director, Kash Patel. The hack is allegedly linked to an Iranian cybercriminal group, although this information is not officially confirmed. The bureau stated that it “takes all necessary measures to mitigate risks” and that the director's personal account “does not contain government information.” The cyberattack on the FBI director has been attributed to the Iranian hacker group Handala HackTeam. In a statement, the group responded to the domain seizures by the U.S. Department of Justice, claiming they were used to carry out cyberattacks. Earlier, in March, the State Department offered a reward of up to $10 million for information on individuals involved in malicious cyber activities against U.S. critical infrastructure. To date, authorities have not issued an official statement regarding the cyberattack on Kash Patel. The hackers claimed responsibility for the attack and shared his photo and alleged resume on social media. This incident could increase tensions between the United States and Iran.
