Mexican authorities reported that six of its citizens have been buried in the United States, with two cases not requesting this type of assistance. Legally, the official stated that there are currently two lawsuits filed, while four cases are in the process of being filed, three are under preliminary legal analysis, and three others are under family evaluation. During his participation in the morning conference, the official detailed that the cases have occurred in at least seven states: California, Georgia, Arizona, Texas, Florida, Missouri, and Illinois, and involve individuals aged 19 to 69. According to the information presented, the main causes of death have been medical complications, with six cases; suicide, with four; and two cases linked to operations and one more by shooting. Velasco informed that the Government of Mexico has provided financial support for repatriation in five cases, with a total amount of 22,288 dollars. Additionally, it has been reported that the Professional Responsibility Office of ICE has opened investigations. Finally, he assured that the Government of Mexico is closely following each case and reiterated that these types of events “cannot be tolerated,” so diplomatic and legal efforts will continue to clarify the circumstances of each death and ensure justice for the victims and their families. Legal representation has been provided through programs of the Secretariat of Foreign Relations (SRE) as well as through private services. The undersecretary also announced that 14 diplomatic communications have been sent to U.S. authorities, of which 12 responses have been received.
