The United States is accelerating the deployment of thousands of additional Marines and sailors to the Middle East, according to two sources familiar with the decision, as reported by NBC and learned by the Argentinian News Agency. According to sources accessed by the Argentinian News Agency, the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), composed of at least 2,200 Marines, is expected to deploy from San Diego in the coming days, ahead of schedule. They reported that the 11th MEU will deploy aboard the USS Boxer, an amphibious assault ship, and will likely be accompanied by at least one, if not two, additional vessels, meaning several thousand U.S. sailors will also be deployed.
