Trump: Rubio is talking with Cuba about a deal

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Monday that his Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, is 'talking with Cuba right now' about a deal, but considered a military operation in the country, similar to the one in Venezuela, 'unnecessary.' 'We are talking with Cuba right now. We'll see how it all turns out, but we are talking with Cuba,' he stated. Likewise, he defended that 'there be no oil, no money, no anything' flowing to Cuba, referring to U.S. sanctions against countries that sell or provide oil to Havana. Asked if he is considering a military operation like the one that led to the capture of the ousted Venezuelan president, Nicolás Maduro, Trump refused to answer but opined that 'it would not be a very tough operation' and said he 'does not believe that is necessary.' Cuba has been going through a deep energy crisis since mid-2024, which has been aggravated since last January by greater difficulties in accessing fuel and by the latest oil blockade to the island ordered by Trump. 'Marco Rubio is talking with Cuba right now about a deal,' Trump said.
