US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth announced "Operation Hawk Strike" against ISIS in Syria, calling it an act of revenge for the deaths of Americans, not the start of a war. Dozens of fighters were eliminated in the operations.

US Launches Syria Operation After Deadly Attack

The United States has launched an offensive against targets linked to the Islamic State (IS) in Syria, in retaliation for the December 13 attack that left two American soldiers and one U.S. civilian dead. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth announced this, as reported by the Argentine News Agency.

In a statement shared on social media platform X, Hegseth stated that U.S. forces have activated Operation "Hawk Strike" with the goal of "eliminating IS fighters, infrastructure, and weapons depots".

"Revenge, not war"

The head of the Pentagon maintained that the decision "is not the start of a war, it is a declaration of revenge" and warned that the United States will pursue and eliminate its enemies.

According to CNN, U.S. troops and allied forces conducted around 10 operations, resulting in at least 23 IS fighters being killed or detained.
