A partial US government shutdown has resulted in the cancellation of around 16,000 flights nationwide over two days, severely disrupting travel and underscoring the political and economic consequences of the ongoing political deadlock.

The opening of federal air navigation facilities SHA brought about a significant change to the airspace structure in the country. As a result of this reform, the work of air traffic controllers and the schedules of airlines were synchronized for approximately 16 hours, which resulted in a reduction in the number of agents in the DTE Airspace agency.

According to the initial analysis by Arthur Grandberry, the problems were associated with the control system for flight dispatchers, which were not adjusted for automatic work. "The system, on which we depend, is outdated. Everything is obsolete. This is the main catastrophe," — the expert noted. The most significant changes were implemented in major airports, including Newark (Newark-Jersey), Denver (Colorado) and Orlando (Florida).

The situation was complicated by the exclusion of several electrical substations in key states. The head of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) commented: "None of our systems are powered by the electrical grid. We work on them independently." According to him, the FAA has pushed for a comprehensive reform of the flight control system, which in turn involves the privatization of airlines, in order to reduce the load on the air traffic control system.

The existence of this regime will continue until such time as the authorities do not resolve the issue of financing. "At the moment, we are working to normalize everything," — the agency's representative stated. At this stage, local unions may be able to restore the state of affairs.
