President of the USA Donald Trump announced the introduction of new customs duties on all films produced outside the country's borders, warning about the devastation of Hollywood due to the trend of American studios and cinematographers working abroad. This statement comes at a time when the White House is facing criticism due to trade policies, including increased customs duties on a majority of countries in the world. "We want films to be produced in America again!" Trump stated. Representatives of the president, including the Ministry of Trade, have been instructed to begin the immediate introduction of 100% duties on all films produced abroad and imported into the USA. In his post on social media, Trump also noted that the decision was made after China announced the reduction of imports of American films. In January, Trump appointed three veterans of Hollywood – Jon Fithian, Sylvester Stallone, and Mel Gibson – to restore Hollywood to the position of "the largest, best, and most powerful industry ever." The production of television and film has been leaving Hollywood for several years, moving to places with tax incentives, making productions less costly.
