U.S. President Donald Trump and Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum held a productive phone conversation discussing tariffs, drug trafficking, and migration. An agreement was reached on tariffs for certain Mexican products until April 2.


Trump and Sheinbaum Discuss Tariffs and Migration

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, positively referred to the phone call he had with his Mexican counterpart, Claudia Sheinbaum. During the morning of this Thursday, both leaders discussed topics such as tariffs, drug trafficking, and migration in the phone conversation.

Claudia Sheinbaum reported that as a result of the call, an agreement was reached for Mexican products included in the USMCA treaty to be exempt from tariffs until April 2. Sheinbaum also mentioned that the call was respectful and emphasized the importance of her people in the negotiations.

For his part, Donald Trump, from the Oval Office, praised the Mexican president, calling her again a "wonderful woman." Trump celebrated the "very good conversation" he had with Sheinbaum, emphasizing that they talked about the issue of drugs and the joint progress they have made in this area.

Trump also acknowledged that the United States is assisting Mexico with the short-term tariff issue, referring to the agreement not to impose tariffs until April 2. Overall, both parties seem to have found common ground and cooperation on these highly relevant issues for the bilateral relationship.
