U.S. President Donald Trump displayed a dark rash with apparent scabs on the right side of his neck on Monday, which his personal physician, Sean Barbarella, attributed to a preventive treatment.

The image of the skin rash once again sparked speculation about the president's health. At 79 years old, he is the oldest president in U.S. history, and has previously appeared in public with bruises on his hands.

In a statement to the media, Barbarella said that Trump is "using a very common cream" on his neck for a week as part of a "preventive skin treatment," and expects the redness to be visible "for a few weeks."

On Monday morning, Trump was participating in the Medal of Honor ceremony when cameras captured the rash peeking out from the collar of his shirt, between his scalp and the back of his ear.

In early January, the president revealed to The Wall Street Journal that he takes large doses of aspirin daily out of superstition and attributed this consumption to the appearance of bruises on his hands, which he sometimes covers with makeup.

The White House press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, responded last year to speculation about the president's hand bruises, stating that he spends the day working and shaking hands.

Meanwhile, his physician, cited in the interview with the WSJ, assured that Trump enjoys good health in general, but clarified that he has a "chronic superficial venous insufficiency" that causes inflammation in the lower part of his legs.
