U.S. President Donald Trump will highlight this Tuesday the importance of «U.S. domination» in the Western Hemisphere and will emphasize the fight against drug cartels in Mexico and Latin America in his State of the Union address, according to excerpts released by the White House. «We are also restoring American security and dominance in the Western Hemisphere, acting to secure our national interests and defend our country from violence, drugs, terrorism, and foreign interference. For years, vast swathes of territory in our region, including large parts of Mexico, have been controlled by murderous drug cartels,» a portion of the speech states. This first State of the Union address of Trump's second term comes two days after the death of Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) leader Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes «El Mencho» in an operation by the Mexican Army with support from U.S. intelligence. In his first year in office, the Trump administration has maintained an intense campaign of attacks on small boats in the Latin American and Caribbean Pacific, allegedly for participating in drug trafficking to the United States, and has militarily intervened in Venezuela to detain President Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores, who are currently in a prison in New York, accused of drug trafficking.
