Elon Musk, through his political organization, has been promoting Donald Trump's presidential campaign by running a daily raffle of one million dollars in key states. The businessman’s lawyers filed a motion to move the case to federal court, arguing relevance in the area of federal elections, although state judge Angelo Foglietta decided to hear the case in town hall.
The lawyers of Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner have expressed their discontent with the continuation of the raffle promoted by Musk and the political action group 'America PAC', despite Krasner's attempts to cancel it. Matthew Haverstick, legal representative of Musk and the political action committee, urged the judge to dismiss the case following the filing of the motion to transfer it to federal court.
Krasner, a Democrat, filed a lawsuit to stop the raffle that is part of America PAC, scheduled to run until election day and aimed at registered voters in contested states who express support for the Constitution. Legal issues have arisen regarding the legality of the raffle in relation to the federal prohibition on paying third parties to vote.
Amid the controversy, Krasner does not rule out the possibility of bringing criminal charges to safeguard the integrity of the elections and prevent illegal activities. According to the lawsuit, America PAC and Musk are allegedly violating Pennsylvania laws against illegal lotteries and consumer deception.
Musk's political commitment has intensified in support of Trump, contributing considerable funds to his campaign through a 'super PAC' that has the financial freedom to raise and spend unlimited amounts. Despite the criticisms, Musk has stated that civilization is at risk if Trump does not succeed in the elections in November.
