Rubén Oseguera González, better known as 'El Menchito' and second in command of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), was transferred from Columbia to Philadelphia to serve his life sentence. The son of the CJNG leader, Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, alias 'el Mencho', was sentenced on March 7 in a federal court in the United States to life in prison plus 30 years for drug trafficking and weapons, imposed by Judge Beryl A. Howell.
According to information from the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP), 'El Menchito' was transferred to a federal detention center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This penitentiary houses over a thousand inmates and is located in eastern Pennsylvania. Oseguera's attorney had requested 40 years in prison for his client, arguing that he was 14 years old when he joined his family's drug trafficking business.
In the two-week trial, 34-year-old Rubén Oseguera was found guilty of conspiring to import and distribute cocaine and methamphetamine, as well as illegally using firearms in his criminal activities. According to the U.S. Prosecutor's Office, 'El Menchito' led the CJNG's efforts to expand its influence using violence and trafficking large amounts of lethal drugs in the United States.
Judge Howell also ordered the forfeiture of more than 6 billion dollars as part of the sentence against 'El Menchito'. Additionally, the convict's sister, Jessica Oseguera 'La negra', was sentenced to 30 months in 2021, and his uncle Antonio Oseguera is facing a money laundering case involving the cartel.
