Prior to the electoral elections in the United States, Republican contender Donald Trump hosted journalists and supporters at his Mar-a-Lago estate on Tuesday, October 29. During the meeting, he promised to deliver a 'hard blow' to drug cartels.
In an attempt to get ahead of Vice President Kamala Harris's important speech from the National Mall that same night, Trump focused much of his statements on the issue of immigrant crime. The Republican candidate promised to confiscate the assets of drug cartels and gangs to compensate the victims.
Subsequently, Trump will head to Pennsylvania to continue his campaign, including a rally in Allentown, a city with a significant Puerto Rican population. The mayor of Allentown, Matt Tuerk, is the first Latino mayor in the city's history.
Kamala Harris, for her part, is scheduled to deliver a speech in Washington DC focused on Trump and his capability for the position. The Vice President is trying to frame the elections as a referendum on her Republican opponent rather than on her current boss, Joe Biden. She is expected to speak from the same location south of the White House where Trump gathered his supporters on January 6, 2021, before the Capitol riot.
Harris's campaign has gained momentum in recent days due to the controversial comments made by speakers at Trump's rally over the weekend at Madison Square Garden, particularly the derogatory reference to Puerto Rico as a 'garbage island.' Harris has reiterated her discontent over Trump's comments during an appearance on The Breakfast Club radio show, seizing the opportunity to broaden her outreach to Black and Latino voters.
