United States and Israel launch massive attack on Iran. February 28, 2026. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio notified some members of Congress this week in advance about the military attack against Iran that President Donald Trump launched this early morning, reported CNN. The head of American diplomacy and CIA Director John Ratcliffe held a meeting on Tuesday with the so-called 'Group of Eight,' which includes Republican and Democratic leaders of the House of Representatives and the Senate, to brief them on the policy towards Iran. Speaker of the House Mike Johnson and Senate Majority Leader John Thune, both Republicans, as well as the Vice Chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, Democrat Mark Warner, were reportedly notified of the attack, according to sources familiar with the matter consulted by CNN. According to NBC News, other key lawmakers were notified once the bombardments were underway. The military operation ordered by Trump in coordination with Israel was not approved by Congress, which holds the constitutional power to declare war on another country. Trump, whose government was negotiating a nuclear pact with Iran, announced this early morning the launch of a large-scale military operation aimed at ending the Iranian regime.
