Journalist Jesús Esquivel analyzed the State of the Union address delivered by the President of the United States, Donald Trump, which he described as a message with a clear electoral background heading towards the November 3rd midterm elections.
He highlighted that Trump mentioned Mexico in the context of combating drug trafficking and the Jalisco New Generation Cartel. He added that the head of state challenged lawmakers to stand up if they agreed to defend American citizens and not undocumented immigrants, which caused Democrats to remain seated.
Esquivel specified that the operation that resulted in the death of their leader, Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, was "purely Mexican" and that the U.S. leader "hung a medal on himself" during his intervention. Regarding foreign policy, Esquivel explained that Trump also addressed the case of Venezuela and the operation carried out on January 3rd to capture Nicolás Maduro in Caracas.
