The president had withdrawn his support for his former ally and declared that he would back a primary candidate to run against her. "I have too much self-respect and dignity, I love my family too much, and I don't want my dear district to have to endure a painful and hateful primary against me by the president for whom we all fought, only to have to fight and win my own election while Republicans likely lose the midterms," Greene wrote in a statement. In recent weeks, Greene criticized the President for being too focused on foreign policy and not doing enough on his domestic agenda. The two also disagreed on the release of Department of Justice files on Jeffrey Epstein, which Trump ultimately signed into law after strong resistance.
