Film 'Melania' Mocked for Poor Box Office Performance in the US

Despite a major marketing campaign, the new film about Melania Trump has faced a complete lack of audience interest. Screenshots of empty theaters and sarcastic social media comments have gone viral, casting doubt on the creators' claims of high box office numbers.

Film 'Melania' Mocked for Poor Box Office Performance in the US

The film 'Melania' has sparked a wave of ridicule on social media after users noticed a clear lack of public interest, despite the extensive media coverage it received before its theatrical release. Numerous activists shared screenshots and images from ticketing systems showing dozens of unsold seats just days before its official premiere, which is scheduled today in 1,500 to 2,000 theaters across the United States. The film tells the story of Melania Trump, wife of former U.S. President Donald Trump, and focuses on the 20-day period leading up to his inauguration for a second term last year. Despite heavy promotion, the American public appears largely uninterested, which was reflected in the sarcastic comments circulating on social media. In this context, Travis Akers, a former naval intelligence officer who later became a community activist, posted a photo on the 'X' platform showing a completely empty booking for a theater in Florida, the state where Trump resides. Akers wrote: 'Not a single ticket has been sold for the opening of 'Melania' at the busiest theater in Jacksonville.' He added sarcastically: 'How many days will it take before we find out that the Republican National Committee bought tickets to 'Melania' just to inflate the box office numbers?' Meanwhile, writer and documentary filmmaker Greg Mitchell commented on Trump's claims of high ticket sales, saying: 'Trump claims tickets for 'Melania' are selling out quickly, but at the large multiplex near my home, only 20 tickets have been sold for four shows on opening day.' Journalist Mike Rothschild also shared footage showing near-empty theaters for 'Melania' in several cinemas in California, writing: 'In four theaters in the Los Angeles area, only five tickets were sold in total, while at an AMC theater in Orange County, not a single ticket has been sold yet.' It is worth noting that 'Amazon MGM Studios', owned by billionaire Jeff Bezos, acquired the film's rights for $40 million and, according to media reports, spent an additional $35 million on marketing campaigns.
