The U.S. Embassy in Argentina has officially announced the arrival of the new ambassador, Peter Lamelas, who arrived in Buenos Aires this Friday and will present his credentials to the Argentine government in the coming days.
"Welcome to Argentina! Ambassador Peter Lamelas arrived today in Buenos Aires and in the coming days will present his credentials to begin his work at a key moment for the relationship between the United States and Argentina," the diplomatic representation reported through its social networks.
Lamelas was nominated by former President Donald J. Trump on March 24, 2025, and confirmed by the United States Senate on September 18 of the same year as the 53rd U.S. ambassador to the Argentine Republic.
A doctor, businessman, and Trump nominee
A doctor and businessman, Lamelas holds a doctorate in Medicine and a Master's in Business Administration, and is also the founder and former CEO of MD Now Urgent Care, the largest network of urgent care centers in the state of Florida.
At the local level, he also served as a city commissioner for the city of Manalapan, Florida.
Born in Cuba, he emigrated to the United States with his family in search of freedom, and after years of working in a small family business, he built a distinguished professional and business career.
Together with his wife Stephanie, the new ambassador is an avid hiker and actively participates in philanthropic activities for various charitable organizations.
Lamelas's arrival comes at a strategic time for bilateral relations between the two countries, marked by mutual interest in areas such as investment, energy, technological innovation, and security cooperation.
Under his leadership, the company provided accessible medical services to millions of patients and employed thousands of healthcare professionals.
In the institutional sphere, he served on the board of directors of the Urgent Care Association twice and held the position of Medical Director for Hospital Emergency Services and Emergency Medical Services.
Ties to Trump's first administration
During Trump's first administration, Lamelas was a member of the Department of Justice's Public Safety Valor Review Medal Board, an agency that recognizes the bravery of American first responders.
