The guided missile destroyer USS Gravely (DDG 107) was deployed by the United States as part of the executive orders issued by President Donald Trump to reinforce security at the border with Mexico. The mission of this body, founded in 1982, includes various maritime interventions, such as combating piracy, military operations, interdiction of illegal migration, and protection of military forces, among other tasks.
According to a statement issued by Northern Command, the USS Gravely, belonging to the Arleigh Burke class, departed on Saturday from the Yorktown Naval Weapons Station for its scheduled deployment in the Northern Command Area of Responsibility. This deployment is part of enhancing surveillance and operations in U.S. and international waters to address challenges related to drug trafficking and undocumented migration.
Admiral Daryl Caudle, commander of the U.S. Naval Forces Northern Command, stated that the deployment of Gravely is a fundamental improvement in the nation’s border security. He also highlighted the collaboration with interagency partners to strengthen maritime presence and ensure national security and protection of territorial integrity with professionalism and determination.
The USS Gravely, which carries aboard a Coast Guard Law Enforcement Detachment, contributes to operations in response to presidential executive orders and the national emergency declaration. This deployment demonstrates the commitment of the Department of Defense and the Navy to national security priorities, in the fight against maritime terrorism, transnational crime, and illegal immigration by sea, among other threats.
