The United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has launched the CBP Home application, aimed at irregular migrants wishing to return to their home countries. According to an official statement, this new tool aligns with President Donald Trump's executive order to safeguard American citizens against what is deemed an 'invasion.'
"Pete Flores, acting commissioner of CBP, pointed out that the application offers illegal migrants in the United States a clear pathway to express their desire for voluntary deportation, allowing them to leave before facing more severe consequences."
The Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Kristi Noem, praised the CBP Home initiative and criticized the immigration policy of the former president. According to Noem, the Biden administration exploited the CBP One program to facilitate the illegal entry of over one million migrants, while the launch of CBP Home seeks to restore the integrity of the immigration system.
The CBP One application allowed individuals to enter legally and safely through scheduled appointments after a thorough background check. On the other hand, the CBP Home operates with a focus on the voluntary return of migrants who wish to go back to their countries without legal implications on their records.
"Through CBP Home, migrants have the option to return legally and aspire to fulfill the American dream. If they do not, authorities maintain that they will be located, deported, and may never return again."
To apply for voluntary return to their country, users of the application must complete a questionnaire with their personal details, take a photograph, and answer questions regarding their economic capacity to undertake the return journey.
