A CBP Home application has appeared in the USA, initially designed for illegal immigrants, which offers them the option to "voluntarily depart." This application replaces CBP One, which was created in 2020 and expanded by the Biden administration in 2023.
According to the application's representatives, CBP Home provides the opportunity for illegal immigrants to communicate about their location, plans for deportation, or requests for a visa. The application also provides access to information about places where help and immigration consulting can be obtained.
However, despite the developers' assurances of the application's voluntariness, some advocates and civil rights lawyers have expressed concerns regarding the risks related to the protection of this data and potential misuse of information against them. Advocates have also emphasized the lack of guarantees and transparency in the deportation process through this application.
"We must pay special attention to protecting data and privacy in cases of using similar technologies in sensitive immigration issues," noted one of the advocates.
