An investigation began with an analysis of documents and emails recovered from an abandoned laptop belonging to Hunter Biden. These documents were delivered in 2020 to Trump’s personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani. The effort to accuse Biden lost momentum in February 2024 when an FBI informant was charged with lying to the agency about Hunter Biden and his connection with Burisma Holdings.
The Director of National Intelligence of the United States, Tulsi Gabbard, announced on March 10 that the White House revoked security clearances for prominent members of the Joe Biden Administration (2021-2025). This includes Antony Blinken, Jake Sullivan, Lisa Monaco, Mark Zaid, Norman Eisen, Andrew Weissmann, Letitia James, and Alvin Bragg. Also affected are 51 intelligence agents who signed a letter in October 2020 related to the Hunter Biden laptop case.
The controversy originated from emails published by The New York Post, which were allegedly retrieved from Hunter Biden's computer. These emails mentioned a meeting between Joe Biden, while he was vice president, and an executive from Burisma Holdings, a Ukrainian company under investigation at that time. Joe Biden was accused of forcing the dismissal of Ukraine's attorney general to protect his son, who worked for the company.
In September 2023, Kevin McCarthy, Speaker of the House of Representatives, initiated an impeachment inquiry against Joe Biden for alleged corruption. According to James Comer, chairman of the House Oversight Committee, Hunter Biden and his associates received around $24 million from foreign entities between 2014 and 2019. Comer claimed they sold lucrative access worldwide, harming the interests of the United States.
