
The President of the United States, Donald Trump, pointed out in his speech before Congress that thanks to his tariff policy, the Government of Mexico handed over 29 drug traffickers to the United States. Trump described this event as unprecedented and a result of the pressure exerted through the imposed tariffs.
Some of the leaders of Mexican cartels arrested in this operation include Rafael Caro Quintero from the Guadalajara Cartel and two leaders from Los Zetas, Miguel Angel and Omar Treviño Morales. Trump expressed his satisfaction with this handover, calling it a gesture of international cooperation from Mexico.
In subsequent statements, the U.S. government classified the extradited drug traffickers as terrorists and demanded justice. The White House acknowledged the work of Trump’s cabinet officials in this operation and highlighted the extradition of Rafael Caro Quintero, who is accused of torturing and murdering DEA agent Enrique ‘Kiki’ Camarena in 1985.
Trump's administration criticized Joe Biden's handling of allowing the freedom of action for these criminals and the crimes committed on U.S. soil and internationally. Additionally, they labeled the extradited drug traffickers as terrorists and demanded justice for the American people.
