Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and former US President Donald Trump have drawn attention to the need to achieve peace as soon as possible. In a message posted on social media, Zelensky highlighted the importance of peace, while Trump warned that Europe cannot achieve this goal without the support of the United States.
The decision to suspend military aid to Ukraine, ordered by Trump through Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, will remain in effect until the US president determines that there is a genuine commitment to peace from Ukrainian leaders in their relations with Russia.
As a consequence of this suspension, all US military equipment destined for Ukraine is on hold, including arms in transit through Poland. This measure has generated uncertainty regarding the external support Ukraine may receive in its pursuit of peace.
Tensions between Trump and Zelensky escalated following a tense verbal confrontation at the White House, which resulted in the cancellation of a bilateral agreement on minerals. This agreement aimed to establish a joint fund between Ukraine and the United States, in which Ukraine would contribute a percentage of its revenues from natural resources.
Despite the frustration expressed by Trump towards Zelensky's position in peace negotiations with Russia, the former US president hinted that the possibility of an agreement to open Ukraine's mineral resources to US investments is still on the table.
For his part, Zelensky showed willingness to sign a minerals agreement with the United States, even after the complicated meeting with Trump. After participating in a summit in London, where a plan was agreed to strengthen peace in Ukraine, the country is expected to benefit from a British investment to acquire air defense systems.
