The US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, was forced to return to the United States on Thursday due to a technical problem on board his plane.
Pompeo arrived in Dakar, the capital of Senegal, late in the evening to begin his five-day visit to four African countries. However, while the plane was en route to the States for technical maintenance, serious malfunctions were discovered.
"We were forced to return to the western edge of Africa due to an unavoidable problem on the plane," the portal Hoydiario.es quotes the State Department in response to questions about public diplomacy.
In his speech, Pompeo stressed that such things do happen, and that the team was instructed to return the plane for further repairs.
