The President of the United States, Donald Trump, during a press conference at the White House alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, raised the idea of vacating Gaza and relocating its inhabitants to Jordan or Egypt, generating opposition reactions from those countries. Trump proposed turning Gaza into a top-tier tourist destination, mentioning its natural resources as attractions for investors.
In statements during the meeting, Trump insisted that Gaza, historically associated with death and destruction, should be vacated and rebuilt to become a tourist attraction, according to geopolitical analyst Alfredo Jalife-Rahme. This plan for the forced displacement of nearly two million people would aim to transform Gaza into "the Riviera of the Middle East."
According to Jalife-Rahme, the idea of evicting Palestinians from Gaza would be driven by Jared Kushner, Trump's senior advisor and son-in-law. A strategy for voluntary or forced transfer is being considered to achieve this. Trump stated that this project would generate economic development in the region, although he showed a lack of understanding of the complexity of the conflict in that area.
Reflecting on history and proposing a "transfer" of Palestinians, Trump considered the possibility of forced expulsion if the inhabitants do not voluntarily leave Gaza. For Jalife-Rahme, this measure could lead to a displacement of Palestinians to central Africa, highlighting historical and geopolitical aspects behind this proposal.
