The U.S. Senate confirmed Pam Bondi as Attorney General, succeeding Merrick Garland. She is committed to ensuring DOJ independence and enforcing border laws.

Senate Confirms Pam Bondi as Attorney General

The United States Senate confirmed the nomination of Pam Bondi as Attorney General in the Administration of Donald Trump. The former Attorney General of Florida was chosen by the New York magnate to replace legislator Matt Gaetz in November. Bondi, 59 years old, received Senate approval with 54 votes in favor and 46 against.

Trump highlighted that Bondi made history as the first woman Attorney General of Florida, a position she held from 2011 to 2019. Additionally, Bondi was part of the transition team during Trump’s first term and defended him during his first impeachment trial in 2020.

During her nomination hearing before the Senate, Bondi emphasized her commitment to defend the Constitution and assured that the Department of Justice would operate independently, without political influences. She pledged to enforce laws to secure the border with Mexico, addressing issues like fentanyl trafficking and gang violence.

The new Attorney General also promised to end the politicization of the Department of Justice, restore public trust, and remove those who act improperly within her cabinet. Bondi replaces Democrat Merrick Garland in the position.
