Two astronauts, Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore, have been stranded at the International Space Station for more than seven months due to technical problems and ice leaks. In light of this situation, President Donald Trump asked Elon Musk, entrepreneur and member of his cabinet, to organize the rescue of the astronauts.
Elon Musk accepted the mission and also criticized the previous administration led by Joe Biden for what he considers negligence in delaying the rescue. Williams and Wilmore launched on June 5, 2024, and have been in space carrying out their mission since then.
In a tweet, Trump expressed his desire for the astronauts to be safely brought back, acknowledging their bravery. For his part, Elon Musk responded to the president's request, committing to carry out the rescue as soon as possible.
It is important to mention that Sunita Williams holds a Guinness World Record for having conducted a spacewalk at the age of 59, after spending more than 127 days in space. The rescue mission rests with Musk's company, SpaceX, which will coordinate the operation to bring back the stranded astronauts at the International Space Station.
