Civil Rights Advocates Sue Trump Over Birthright Citizenship

International defenders of the rights of migrants and civil liberties, including the American Civil Liberties Union, filed a lawsuit against the directive preventing automatic citizenship at birth, signed by President Donald Trump after his inauguration. Human rights activists called the directive unconstitutional and stated: "Today, migrant rights defenders filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration regarding their directive aimed at depriving the citizenship of some children born on the territory of the United States."

In their statement, activists expressed discontent with the directive as a discriminatory measure against children born in the U.S. to undocumented immigrants. According to the official data available, the majority of the 278 thousand children whose citizenship was denied were born in the country to migrants living there illegally.

"This Trump directive represents an attack on the principles of citizenship and equality before the law in the U.S.," commented the representative of the American Civil Liberties Union. "We believe that this is unacceptable and violates the foundations of the Constitution."

In response to the accusations, Trump reaffirmed his position, stating: "There are only two genders - male and female, and nothing more." At the same time, a White House representative mentioned that the new directive is already under legal review and will be challenged in court.
