Today, as artificial intelligence promises to accomplish tasks once reserved for humans, history seems to be repeating itself in the United States. In regions dependent on manufacturing, such as Indiana, there is deep anxiety among many Americans. When I was governor of Indiana, I made job creation my top priority. From this standpoint, I am confident that American manufacturing will not only survive but thrive in the age of AI. While adaptation is difficult even for workers in digital jobs, the closure of an entire factory due to technological shifts can pose far greater challenges. How can an entire local economy change its course? My family history has taught me that Americans possess a unique capacity for adaptation.
