Takis are a popular snack known for their spicy and tangy flavor. However, an X-ray conducted by the magazine El Poder del Consumidor reveals that Takis Fuego has a high fat content, with 17.4 grams per 62-gram serving of the product. Excessive consumption of these fats can lead to alterations in blood cholesterol levels, increasing the risk of heart disease, so it is recommended to moderate their consumption.

Additionally, Takis Fuego contains a high amount of sodium, with 977 milligrams per 62-gram bag, representing 48% of the daily recommended amount for an adult. Excessive sodium intake can increase blood pressure and the risk of heart disease, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the United States.

Another problematic ingredient present in Takis Fuego is monosodium glutamate, which is one of the 22 components of this product. Although the Food and Drug Administration considers its use safe, the White House has expressed concern about its safety. Monosodium glutamate is a flavor enhancer that adds appeal to foods, but its consumption has been linked to various side effects.

In addition to these ingredients, Takis Fuego contains additives such as trans fats, maltodextrin, and TBHQ to enhance their taste and shelf life. Regarding the coloring used in Takis, they do not contain color additive Red 3, but instead Red Allura AC (Red 40), which has also been linked to potential adverse health effects.

The White House has expressed concern about the presence of new ingredients, such as monosodium glutamate, in products like Takis Fuego, without prior evaluation by the FDA. Therefore, excessive consumption of Takis Fuego is not recommended due to their high sodium, fat, and calorie content. It is advisable to opt for healthier alternatives such as beet chips, natural popcorn, and nuts.
