The American Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that the number of newborns in the USA in 2023 fell to its lowest level in the last 40 years, continuing a long-term trend of decreasing family size in the country. The total number of births in 2023 was 3.596 million, which is 2% less than in 2022.

This trend of decreasing newborn numbers persists worldwide due to political upheavals and economic uncertainty, which prevent people from having children. At the beginning of this month, the European Union also announced a decrease in the number of newborns in 2023 to 3.6 million children, which is 5% less than in the previous year — the lowest figure in the last 60 years.

This problem also affects several countries worldwide that are experiencing a decrease in the number of marriages and births.
