A zoo in Connecticut, United States, has asked the public for help in naming a newborn female black-handed spider monkey by opening a vote for name suggestions. Beardsley Zoo reported that the infant was born on December 18. In its social media accounts, the zoo stated: "Black-handed spider monkeys play a vital role in maintaining the health of tropical rainforest ecosystems. This species faces ongoing threats from habitat loss and the illegal wildlife trade, making births such as this one particularly special." The zoo has launched an online poll asking the public to help choose a name for the newborn.
