Data released by the U.S. Treasury Department on Wednesday showed a decrease in foreign holdings of U.S. Treasury bonds in December. Following this, Japan and the United Kingdom, the two largest holders of U.S. government debt, reduced the size of their investment portfolios consisting of these bonds.
