U.S. President Donald Trump threatened to impose tariffs on Japanese goods if an agreement is not reached.
Trump stated: "We will conclude a deal with Japan on trade. If we do not conclude a deal, we will be imposing very high tariffs on Japanese goods."
This threat from Trump is part of his strategy to increase pressure on Japan to achieve favorable terms for the U.S. in trade with that country.
