FIFA President Gianni Infantino met with U.S. President Donald Trump to discuss the possibilities of the U.S. national soccer team winning the 2026 World Cup, which will take place in North America, alongside Mexico and Canada.
Infantino mentioned that U.S. players are in some of the best European teams, which increases the prospects of success for the national team. He also highlighted the growth of the team led by Argentine Mauricio Pochettino and spearheaded by Christian Pulisic.
During the meeting in the Oval Office, Trump joked about the strategy of bringing industrial power back to the United States and mentioned the intention to organize a high-profile show for the halftime of the 2026 World Cup final, inspired by the Super Bowl halftime. Infantino, for his part, stated that this show would be even better and bigger, to which Trump responded with laughter that he also believed it would be better.
Infantino emphasized the qualities of U.S. players and expressed his confidence that, with the support of the fans, the U.S. team has a real chance of winning the 2026 World Cup. Trump, excited, established a task force to coordinate actions ahead of the tournament, of which he will be the chairman.
