Trump Announces New Generation of Warships for US Navy

US President Donald Trump announced a plan for the US Navy to build a new generation of warships, dubbed "Trump-class" battleships, which he claimed will be "the fastest and the biggest." The announcement was made during a press conference in Washington, alongside Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth; Secretary of State Marco Rubio; and Secretary of the Navy, John Phelan. In this context, Trump stated that he has already approved the initial plan to build two ships and added that the construction of eight more will follow, with the ultimate goal of having a fleet of 20 to 25 ships of this new class. According to the details provided by the president, the vessels will have an estimated displacement of between 30,000 and 40,000 tons and will be equipped with state-of-the-art weaponry, including hypersonic missiles, electromagnetic railguns, cruise missiles, and laser weapon systems. Trump claimed these ships will become the "flagship" of the US naval fleet and will reinforce the country's military supremacy at sea. Meanwhile, Secretary of the Navy John Phelan stated that the "Trump-class" battleship aims to be "the biggest, the most lethal, the most fully functional, and also the most aesthetically pleasing" warship in the world. In a statement released the same day, the US Department of Defense announced that the new class of battleship is currently in the design phase, with the official goal of completing the first unit in the early 2030s. The project is part of a broader strategy to modernize the US Armed Forces in the face of current geopolitical and technological challenges.
