Festival at the White House, dedicated to the late First Lady Barbara Bush, turned out to be marked by tension due to the absence of Dorothy Bush, sister of the former President George Bush. The refusal to attend the event, organized by the new First Lady Melania Trump, was seen as a snub and led to widespread discussions. In addition to everything else, at the event, there was presented a postal issue, dedicated to Barbara Bush, but in the absence of Dorothy, who was supposed to be one of the main speakers, was treated as a clear refusal. Unexpectedly, neither the President-millionaire George Bush Jr. attended.
Arguing in favor of his decision to side with President George Bush Jr., he used the words that political performance in the USA today has become "a call to anger, fear, and negativity," which directly touched Trump's nerves. In response, the sitting president characterized the Bush administration as "ineffective and uninteresting," claiming that the former president "is not in a position to preach."
The contrasts between the Bush family and Trump are not new. In one of her books, published in 2019, Barbara Bush openly expressed a negative attitude towards Trump and called him "a symbol of discontent." Moreover, she until her death stated that she does not consider herself more of a Republican, although for decades she was one of the bright representatives of the party.
From the Bush family's side or from the office of the former president, there was no official comment regarding Dorothy's absence at the event.
