White House Delays Decision on TPS for Ukrainians

The White House has not yet decided whether to revoke Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for 240,000 Ukrainians living in the U.S., amidst tensions between the U.S. and Ukraine.

White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt denied a Reuters report suggesting the revocation of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for the 240,000 Ukrainians residing in the United States. Leavitt stated that, so far, no decision has been made regarding this, calling the news "fake news" based on unnamed sources.

If the revocation of TPS were confirmed, it would be interpreted as an attempt by President Donald Trump to pressure his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky. Following a recent disagreement in the Oval Office, Trump has complicated the relationship with Ukraine, suspending military aid, halting the shipment of weapons and ammunition worth over $1 billion, and canceling intelligence sharing.

Despite these measures, White House National Security Advisor Mike Waltz mentioned the possibility that Trump could restore aid if progress is made in peace talks and steps are taken to end the conflict in Ukraine. Uncertainty remains regarding the potential future actions of the U.S. government concerning the TPS of Ukrainians.
