According to various testimonies, thousands of federal employees in the United States received layoff emails as part of the cutback measures pushed by President Donald Trump and his ally Elon Musk. Many unions and groups have filed lawsuits against the Trump Administration claiming that the layoffs were not carried out legally.
Amid the wave of cutbacks, around 4,000 unemployment aid requests have been registered in Washington, where federal agencies are located, as a consequence of these layoffs. Most of the laid-off individuals were still in their probation period, causing bewilderment and discontent among workers.
Several laid-off employees have shared their experiences, stating that they have not received sufficient explanations and that they have been asked to return all work equipment, also blocking their access to the systems. Many of them have expressed concern about how the layoffs have been carried out, considering them unfair and unjustified.
On the other hand, some workers who have not yet been laid off have received orders not to work until further notice, which has created uncertainty about the stability of their positions. Elon Musk has urged federal employees from various agencies to resume their tasks or face the possibility of being laid off, which has heightened tension in the work environment.
