The United States government plans to impose tariffs on semiconductors, pharmaceuticals, and steel produced abroad with the aim of promoting domestic production. This measure, announced by President Donald Trump during a retreat of the House of Representatives Republicans in Florida, seeks to encourage manufacturers to establish their plants in the country.
In his statements, Trump mentioned that imported pharmaceuticals, chips, semiconductors, steel, copper, and aluminum would be reviewed. The president added: "If they want to avoid taxes or tariffs, they must build their plants here in the United States."
This decision is part of Trump's policy to prioritize domestic production and reduce imports of key products for the country's economy. The proposed tariffs could have a significant impact on the affected sectors and on the United States' international trade relations.
"We are going to review pharmaceuticals, we are going to review chips, semiconductors, and we are going to review steel and other industries," Trump stated during his speech, highlighting the importance of strengthening the domestic manufacturing industry.
