The elected president of the United States, Donald Trump, has announced his nominations for various positions in his future Cabinet. Among those chosen is Doug Collins, former congressman from Georgia, for the position of Secretary of Veterans Affairs. Collins, a military veteran and chaplain in the Air Force Reserve Command, played a prominent role in the House of Representatives from 2013 to 2021, being one of the main Republican voices on the Judiciary Committee and defending Trump during his first impeachment trial in 2019.

In addition to Collins, Trump has selected other prominent Republicans who supported him during critical moments of his presidency. For example, Lee Zeldin has been appointed to lead the Environmental Protection Agency, John Ratcliffe has been chosen as director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), and Elise Stefanik will be named ambassador of the United States to the United Nations for her loyalty to Trump.

After the elections on November 6, Trump wasted no time and quickly announced more members for his Cabinet. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was selected to head the Department of Health and Human Services after supporting Trump in 2024. Other appointments include Matt Gaetz as Attorney General, Pete Hegseth as Secretary of Defense, and Kristi Noem as Secretary of Homeland Security.

With a Republican majority in the Senate facilitating confirmations with a simple majority of 51 votes, Trump has a clear path to have his selections take their respective positions. However, some of his nominations are expected to raise concerns among Republicans, which could cast doubt on full support for his choices, according to a report from the Xinhua news agency.
