The Republican Trump is expected to officially return to the White House in early 2025 after winning the election on November 5 against the Democratic vice-president Kamala Harris. During his pre-election campaign, Trump harshly criticized illegal immigrants, considering that they bring "bad genes" into the country and "pollute" American blood.
Homan headed the agency that is responsible for securing the US borders during Trump’s previous administration (2017-2021), when around 4,000 immigrant children were separated from their parents and placed under government custody. At that time, Trump called for Republican lawmakers to allow him to appoint senior officials without Senate approval in order to deprive the Democrats of the last remnants of power that could obstruct his administration.
