The United States government recently announced that it remains vigilant against possible retaliatory actions by China against vessels flying the Panamanian flag. This follows recent decisions by Panama's Judicial Body regarding port operations that were not in the best interests of its ports. News channel Fox reported that Washington seeks to ensure that undue pressure is not exerted on the Panamanian-flagged ship fleet. Even Secretary of State Marco Rubio posted on his X account that China's decision to detain Panamanian-flagged vessels violates laws, destabilizes supply chains, affects costs, and erodes confidence in the global trade system. "The United States stands in solidarity with Panama against any retaliatory action against its sovereignty and will always support its partners in the face of harassment," Rubio stated.
