The U.S. Treasury Department plans to put President Donald Trump's signature on all newly printed American banknotes, the agency announced Thursday. It would be the first time a sitting president's signature appears on banknotes, as traditionally U.S. banknotes bear the signatures of the Treasury Secretary and treasurer, not the president. The magazine Vanity Fair was the first to report the news. This is the latest case in which Trump puts his name and image on American cultural institutions, after he renamed the U.S. Institute of Peace, the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and a new class of warships, among other honors. They will put Trump's face on a commemorative coin. The plans come in parallel to a current initiative to put Trump's face on a coin. A federal arts commission approved this month the final design of a 24-karat gold commemorative coin featuring Trump as part of the United States' 250th anniversary celebrations, which takes place on July 4. The Treasury Department states that the plan to include Trump's signature on all new banknotes is intended to honor the nation's 250th anniversary, and that Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent's signature will also be included. Bessent stated in a statement that 'there is no more powerful way to recognize the historical achievements of our great country than with banknotes bearing Trump's name.' U.S. Treasurer Brandon Beach stated in a statement that printing Trump's signature on U.S. currency 'is not only appropriate but also well-deserved.' The Bureau of Engraving and Printing is responsible for producing all paper currency, while the U.S. Mint produces all coins.
U.S. Treasury to Put Trump's Signature on New Banknotes
The U.S. Treasury has announced that President Donald Trump's signature will be placed on all new banknotes. This unprecedented decision marks a departure from tradition, where only the Treasury Secretary's and Treasurer's signatures appeared. The move is tied to the U.S. 250th anniversary and has been endorsed by top officials.
