Trump Calls Spanish Language 'Damned'

At a meeting with Latin American leaders, Donald Trump showed racism by calling the Spanish language 'damned' and refusing to learn it. This display of contempt has drawn condemnation both in the region and worldwide.

At the meeting convened by Donald Trump to announce the birth of the so-called 'Shield of the Americas,' the US president once again showed his uncontrollable racism by completely dismissing the possibility of learning Spanish —in the United States it's called Spanish, Español, which is an error— and describing our language as 'damned.' On other occasions, Trump has shown the disdain he feels for our countries, as well as for many others that make up the global south. What they did was a scandal, a disgrace. Latin American presidents surround Trump. However, it is estimated that there are about 500 million 'Spanish speakers' in the world, and even in the United States there are regions and cities where Spanish is clearly the predominant language. The contemptuous attitude of Trump is the product of his deep-seated racism and unbridled narcissism. And Argentina has its president as the undisputed world champion in that disreputable specialty. This is a fairly common expression in everyday speech in the United States, but in a meeting with 12 heads of state where almost all, except for two, Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago, have Spanish as their official language, the least that can be said is that it was an uncivilized expression and revealing of the profound contempt that the New York tycoon feels for the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean. This attitude is nothing new. If one had to kiss Vito Corleone's hand, with Trump it is necessary to kiss his ass as a prelude to any negotiation. It was a demonstration of abject sycophancy, of an unworthy submission before the insult of the neighborhood bully. Fifteen trips to the United States since the beginning of his term is an unparalleled record that consecrates him as the 'ass-kisser' of the empire, to Argentina's misfortune. It is also a reflection of his conception of power and diplomacy. Someone should have told him that Spanish is one of the most beautiful languages on the planet for the richness of its lexicon and the musicality of its words, which contrasts favorably with almost any other language. But, unlike the previous ones, Spanish has a geographical presence in numerous regions of the planet, while Mandarin Chinese and Hindi are local languages: they are spoken in China and India. Spanish, on the other hand, has spread throughout the Americas, its original seat is in Europe, and it is studied and spoken in numerous countries. This is one of the languages that, after Mandarin Chinese and Hindi, has the most speakers. In this last area, analysts agree that his behavior responds to a central premise, summarized in this expression: 'Kiss my ass and then we talk,' that is, 'kiss my ass and then we talk.' It is true that in an increasingly interconnected world, English has become the lingua franca of the empire, first as a product of the world hegemony of the United Kingdom and then of the United States, which caused that, in the world of business, the internet, culture, social communication, diplomacy, and even sports, English has the largest number of speakers. The expression 'shithole countries' has been used on more than one occasion to refer to those from which immigrants come, whom in his paranoia he describes as an 'invasion horde' composed of drug traffickers, thieves, killers, rapists, and other beautiful attributes of that style.
